Asian destinations become more popular for winter holidays among Dagestanis

During the recent New Year travel season, there was a 9% increase in the number of Russian travelers abroad compared to the corresponding period last year. The demand for tour packages also saw a 45% rise. Instead of attending Christmas markets in Europe, Russian tourists opted for beach holidays, with a third more tourists heading to Asia, while interest in European destinations decreased.

Russian interest in Asian destinations has been on the rise for several consecutive seasons. This year, 21% of Russian holidaymakers chose Asia for their New Year getaway. China emerged as the most popular choice among residents of Dagestan, closely followed by Thailand. Vietnam saw a remarkable 4.5-fold increase in interest, securing its position as the third most sought-after destination.

Africa also saw an impressive 58% surge in tourist arrivals. Dagestani showed particular interest and saw the highest growth in their visits to Egypt, with tourist traffic increasing by 56% there.

The number of trips to Europe from Russia has decreased by 3%. The most significant decline was observed in the interest in destinations with winter holidays, such as Switzerland, Finland, and Iceland. Despite this, 15% of Russian tourists continued to spend their holidays in European countries. Turkey also experienced a decline in tourist traffic, with a 5% decrease in the number of visits compared to the previous year.

When it comes to travel within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and neighboring countries, Russians frequently opt for independent travel, bypassing the services of travel agencies.
