The regional Ministry of Natural Resources has issued a clarification on the recent new facts of Caspian seal deaths on Dagestan coast of the Caspian Sea. According to the Ministry, the Caspian seal deaths have been observed annually during the last few years, when there is an active migration of animals from the Northern to the Southern part of the Caspian Sea. The total number of the Caspian seal is up to 100 thousand animals.

"The possible reasons for the reduction and degradation of the Caspian seal population are the pollution of the habitat, the global climate change, the accidental bycatch and mass death of animals in nets during fishing including illegal etc.", - the Ministry report runs. The state body official added that about 10,000 animals die every year for various reasons.
