In the first four months of 2024, Dagestan cattle breeders produced almost 40 thousand tons of lamb, making the region one of the largest suppliers of mutton not only in Russia, but also in several friendly countries.

In 2023 the volume of meat production in the region amounted to about 257 thousand tons in free weight, including 65 thousand tons of mutton. This year the production of mutton in the republic is 39 thousand tons.

The highly demanded meat is sold not only in Russian stores, but also in neighboring countries, such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Last year 152 thousand head of small cattle were exported. Beef exports are also on the rise, with an additional 62,000 head exported. In the near future, the region plans to launch meat processing facilities.
