Following a slight decline in 2022, attributed to the temporary absence of a portion of the fishing fleet, the production of sprat in Dagestan has been gradually recovering. According to information of the Federal Fisheries Agency, in 2024, the volume of catch amounted to 22.4 thousand tons, representing a 13.3% decrease compared to 2023. This represents a 13.3% decline compared to 2023, marking a positive shift in the trajectory of the industry.
The situation began to improve after commissioning of two new vessels. In February 2025, the catch exceeded the previous year's figures by 5.5%, amounting to 11.1 thousand tons. Currently, 19 vessels are actively engaged in fishing operations.
The sprat caught in Dagestan is sent to different regions for processing, particularly to Crimea and St. Petersburg, where it undergoes canning processes. Within Dagestan, fish processing operations have seen a remarkable growth, increasing by more than 18 times compared to 2024 due to increased production capacity.
