At the recent International Scientific and Practical Conference on Camel Breeding in Russia and the (CIS) held in Makhachkala, it was proposed to create a unified tourist route linking the camel breeding regions of Russia and other CIS countries such as Kazakhstan.
During the conference, it was suggested that a tourist route be created in Dagestan to visit camel breeding farms, which could become an excellent opportunity for agro-tourism. Camel farms are often visited by people who want to purchase milk that is known for its high vitamin C content and low lactose levels. Besides, foreigners sometimes come to the area to purchase this valuable milk.
Some farms in Dagestan offer visitors an opportunity to not only purchase milk and camel hair but also enjoy a relaxing stay for several days.
For present, there are approximately 40 million camels in 57 different breeds in 27 countries. In Russia, the number of camels is estimated to be between 5,500 and 10,000. Camel breeding farms are located in Kalmykia, Dagestan and Astrakhan region.
