Rehabilitation center for Caspian seals opens in Dagestan

Makhachkala, April 13, 2016. The Rehabilitation Center for the Caspian seals will soon be opened in Dagestan, the press service of the republican Ministry for Natural Resources informs.
As to the head of the Agency for the salvation of Caspian seals “Kaspika” Natalia Shumeyko, the appearance of the first Rehabilitation center in the Caspian region will give a fresh impetus to the work on preservation of population of these animals. This will also draw attention of the world scientific community concerned with marine mammals to Dagestan.
"The Center will serve as an important information resource aimed at the promotion of environmental awareness among the younger generation, the cultivation of respect for nature among the children and the attraction of tourists to the region. Hopefully, soon we will set free the first rescued seal rehabilitated in the Caspian Rehabilitation Center".
The Ministry official noted that the preservation of diversity of mammals is not the only direction of work of the governmental body. "A number of rare and endemic species of plants and animals are in need of rehabilitation. We have to attach global efforts to improve the situation", - the press service of the department reports.
