In 2024, Zulkipli Ramazanov, a resident of the village of Dzerzhinskoye located in Khasavyurtovsky municipal district, appeared to be the first who started growing black cumin in Dagestan.
Ramazanov had successfully cultivated exotic crops such as ginger, yams and even passion fruit. This experience inspired him to apply it in his home region and he began growing black cumin.
In 2025, Zulkipli plans to expand the area under black cumin cultivation from 5 to 20 hectares, with the planting starting in March. In the future, Zulkipli aims to establish black cumin oil production in Dagestan, aiming to compete with the products from India and Ethiopia.
