The 4th and the largest solar power plant (SPP) in the republic is being built in Dagestan city of Derbent, on a huge wasteland of several dozens of hectares. It will consist of four start-up complexes of 25 megawatts each. The projected output is about 160 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. The project was initiated by the company "EcoEnergy" and supported by regional authorities. The major investor is the group of companies "Solar Systems".
Since the start of operation, the Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk SPP generated over 28 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. It is supplied to the unified energy system, from where sales companies deliver it to consumers, ensuring daily consumption of Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk and its surroundings.
This is a unique opportunity for the city to develop energy-intensive industries and improve the reliability of energy supply in general. The implementation of such projects largely depends on the position of local authorities. Some municipalities of the republic were unable to solve all the issues related to the construction of SPP within the agreed timeframe. For this reason, investors decided to implement projects in other districts.
For example, the third solar power plant for 60 megawatts in under construction in Nogai district. In the South of Dagestan, it is planned to complete all works in full in 2025. In total, there will be four solar power plants in Dagestan in the coming years. The first solar power plant with a capacity of one megawatt in Dagestan appeared in 2013. It was built in Kaspiysk and successfully function nowadays.
In 2022, the second solar power plant - a much larger one - started operating in the republic. It is located near the town of Yuzhno-Sukhokumsk and has a capacity of 15 megawatts. The investor was the Hevel group of companies. Private investments amounted to more than one billion rubles.
