According to data provided by the Russian Travel Industry Union, Derbent has become the leading Russian resort city in terms of online booking capacity growth, with an impressive 97% increase in the number of rooms available on online platforms in 2023.
Across Russia as a whole, there has also been a significant 44% increase in the volume of accommodation booked online, particularly in major cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg as well as in the Black Sea coast resorts.
From January 2025, Derbent plans to introduce a tourist tax system, imposing a 1% fee on the cost of accommodation. Both legal entities and individual entrepreneurs will be subject to the new taxation. The minimum amount payable is set at RUB 100 per day, providing a steady source of revenue for the local tourism industry.
