Dagestan authorities have introduced a tourist tax in six cities — Makhachkala, Derbent, Kaspiysk, Izberbash, Kizilyurt and Dagestanskiye Ogny, as well as in 19 municipal districts of the republic. According to the press service of the regional government, the tax is levied at the rate of 1% on accommodation in hotels and hostels.

Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the prime minister of Dagestan stated that the introduction of this tax will allow local authorities to increase revenues in local budgets. However, it also increases the tax burden on hotel owners, as the tax applies only to classified accommodation.

The introduction of the tourist tax in Russia came into effect on January 1st, 2024. This tax is considered a regional one, and each region has the freedom to implement it according to their own regulations. For the period until 2025, the tax will be 1% of the total accommodation cost, with a minimum amount of RUB 100. Organizations and individuals providing temporary accommodation services are responsible for paying this tax.
