Dagestan has become a leader among the regions of the North Caucasian Federal District in wool production in 2023. The republic produced 14 thousand tons of wool. For comparison Stavropol farmers produced 6 thousand tons and 1.5 thousand tons in Karachay-Cherkessia.

The increase in wool production makes Dagestan authorities think about the processing industry. In 2024-2026 the region plans to create wool processing enterprises to give an impetus to the development of the regional light industry, carpet weaving and the other traditional types of activity.

Dagestan is currently constructing two new wool washing enterprises with a capacity of 1,000 tons per year. These projects will make it possible to wash up to 3,400 tons of wool annually.
